Built to stand the test of time

First established in 1994 by Giles Potter, GR Potter Plant Hire's first machine purchase was a second hand Hitachi EX60. GR Potter kept this machine until two years ago, clocking up 14,000 hours and managing to sell it for only £4,000 less than it was originally purchased for.

Over the years the company has grown steadily to include over 40 machines, consisting of track machines from 5 to 37 ton, rubber ducks, dozers and dump trucks, which are available to hire operated or non operated throughout the UK.

In the early days GR Potter experimented with various plant manufacturers, but it soon became apparent to them that Hitachi Construction Machinery was outliving its competitors. Some competitor brands on reaching 6,000 hours became uneconomical to run, where as the Hitachi machines were still running in their prime, with some clocking up well over 12,000 hours.

Another great advantage to GR Potter of choosing the Hitachi is the Worldwide demand for used equipment, as Hitachi Construction Machinery have the highest residual values in the market.

A combination of the reliability and impressive residual values associated with Hitachi Construction Machinery along with great HM Plant backup and service have led to 95% of GR Potter’s fleet now consisting of Hitachi excavators.

A large portion of GR Potter's fleet can be seen working on the A1 D2B Dishforth to Leeming A1 Motorway upgrade project, which has been ongoing since 2009.

Comment from Giles Potter...
"We purchased our first new machines in 2004 from HM Plant who have proved to offer a great service. We have developed a strong relationship with our Sales representative Darren Graham whom is knowledgeable on all products and being an ex fitter gives him a greater all round advantage, as he is very understanding of our company's needs, which is extremely beneficial to us."

Comment from Gary Warren, Sales Manager of HM Plant...

"GR Potter have been a loyal and long standing customer of HM Plant and their story epitomises why it is pays to buy a hitachi excavator – both in the short and long term."
